~Viva Las Accordionistas!~

Hey! I just came across a new cool search site...it's called Technorati.com!

Technorati Profile

June is National Accordion Awareness Month!

For those not in the know, the month of June is National Accordion Awareness Month (a.k.a., NAAM). So, if you are a fellow accordionist/squeezeboxer, it is your duty to educate the public about this unique and eclectic musicial instrument that has often been maligned, made fun of, and usually associated with Lawrence Welk (which many of us don't mind...it's just that the accordion is much more than that!)

Visit the following website to increase your knowledge:

Fellow Accordionistas (and their compatriots)

They Might Be Giants (left)

Those Darn Accordions! (TDA!)

Ground-breaking alternative bands that utilize the accordion prominently in all their songs.

Accordion Revolucion

It is important to note that the accordion (and accordionists) is reaching a pinnacle of (dare I say it?) -- popularity and respectability. No longer is the accordion only associated with polkas and "oom-pah" bands, but with various other styles of music as well.

Note the constant and increasing popularity of the alternative musical group They Might Be Giants (TMBG to their fans) from Brooklyn, NY; the increasing squeezebox rockin' sounds of San Francisco's Those Darn Accordions (TDA!)...and other upcoming bands/groups such as One Ring Zero.

What is the mystique connected to this reed/wind instrument that has for many years been the focus of ridicule and stereotyping?

An accordion revolucion is at hand...
